Cheers to 2020!

Happy New Year, everybody!


I have a feeling 2020 is going to be the best year yet. This year, I'll finally learn which colleges I got into, graduate high school, start a new chapter of my life, and turn 18. Super exciting things are coming! Also, the year 2020 looks really cool. The last time a year had the exact same numbers next to each other was 1919 and the next time that will happen will be 2121. We definitely weren't around for the former, and we'll most likely be gone for the latter. Let's enjoy 2020 while we can!


In the spirit of 2020, I have made a list of 20 New Year's resolutions. I hope to fulfill all of them, but even if I don't, I will have dreamt big enough to create twenty distinct, ambitious goals. Each goal is punctuated with an exclamation point to motivate me to complete them. Here they are:

  1. Socialize more and make new friends (especially in college)!

  2. Go out with friends at least twice a month!

  3. Go out of my comfort zone more!

  4. Spend more quality time with my family!

  5. Find ways to eat vegetables without wanting to die!

  6. Learn how to do laundry (Mom's not going to be on campus)!

  7. Get my license (this is a big one... I hate driving)!

  8. Attend every Orangetheory class I sign up for!

  9. Cut back on sugar consumption (another big one... my sweet tooth is insatiable)!

  10. Improve my posture!

  11. Spend 30 minutes outside daily!

  12. Audition (I actually filmed a self-tape a few days ago! Hooray for making progress)!

  13. Improve my piano skills!

  14. Write one song!

  15. Commit to my skincare routine!

  16. Spend money on things that will make me happy!

    1. This one may shock you. Most people aim to cut back on their spending to stay within their budget. I HATE spending money. There have been so many times that I have seen a cute shirt or necklace and not bought it because I knew it was unnecessary. With this resolution, I'm trying to break that habit and allow myself to enjoy purchasing items that genuinely make me happy. I'm not going to go crazy and buy everything I see because I'm not wired that way, but once in a while, I'll indulge in a skirt that I absolutely love.

  17. Wear every piece in my wardrobe at least once!

    1. Every time I organize my closet (which is way more often than you'd think), I find a new item that I wish I wore more often. Hopefully this resolution will inspire me to style some cool outfits!

  18. Apply a face mask and hair mask once a month!

  19. Follow one self care thread I saved on Instagram every two weeks!

  20. Complete at least one thing from my TBD list monthly!

    1. I have a list of movies I'd like to watch, albums and songs I'd like to listen to, and books I'd like to read tucked away in my Notes app. Rather than let them pile up on my virtual shelf, I want to actually dive into this new media.

It's a lot, right? 2020 is a loooong year. We have the power to achieve all our goals if we work for them. I hope you were inspired by my resolutions. What are yours?
